In an age where millions of people are broadcasting their thoughts, lives, and work online, the concept of “working in public,” has become increasingly popular.
For the entrepreneurial, or for those who simply want to build an audience, working in public is a way to show what it is they’re doing before they have a finished product, and to perhaps pique some people’s interest along the way.
The utility of this approach will of course vary from person to person, and relative to the project at hand. Some people might not be comfortable showing a given project before it has reached a certain state. Others might find that documenting work while it’s in progress is too much of a distraction.
Anyway, if you should see a post on this site marked as “work in progress”, “work in public”, or “WIP”, it means I’ve decided that – despite a given article not being finished – there could be utility in sharing what I have so far, be that some half-baked thoughts, or a collection of resources I’m working with.
I’m always open to thoughts and constructive, well-reasoned criticism, so if you see some work-in-progress and have any ideas, do let me know.
